This video has been around for a few years. It is of an event that is now ancient personal history as well as ancient slackline history. I have decided to start a blog but it will not be consistent in form or content as I have many interests. I'm putting this on my art site because at the time, that is how I saw this act, as an art project.
The poem, "Beauty is fearless" was written and performed by my dear friend Pook. I had recorded him performing some of his poems and was listening to "beauty" when I started putting music to it. Usually one would start with a "click track" to keep the time and build a song over that. Pook's performance had such a natural beat that I just kept time with him.
I wasn't planning on putting this poem-to-music with the Lost Arrow footage but I was trying to finish the video at the same time. It dawned on me that these two works sort of fit together, "walk through every fear". Still I was afraid of the potential criticism that the "haters" might use this as ammo, that I was trying to point out that I was "beauty it self". That was not the point. The poem is not about me at all. As my apprehension was, at its root a fear and after listening to that poem enough times to put music to, I had no choice. "Walk through every fear"... and, "the world suffers for all my fears". The video was already complete when I put the music/poem to it. The only synchronizing that I did was to end the music when I step on to the flake at the end of the walk. It is amazing how many times the video appears to sync or nearly sync with the poem/music. The near misses are not bad editing just imperfections in a near perfect mistake.
